Painting Fundraiser for Ostego Bay Foundation

earn painting skills while helping children gain appreciation for Southwest Florida’s aquatic


environment at a special fundraiser for the Ostego Bay Foundation, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., May 18, at Bonita Bill’s Waterfront Cafe at Fisherman’s Wharf, in Fort Myers Beach. Vino’s Picasso, a paint studio, wine


bar and art gallery in Fort Myers, will teach attendees step-by-step how to paint Lovegrove’s Fish, a piece by popular Matlacha-based artist Leoma Lovegrove, on their own 12-inch-by-16-inch canvas. A portion of the proceeds will help area children attend weeklong summer classes in marine biology and preservation via the nonprofit Fort Myers foundation.

Canning Classes in Fort Myers

ardeners and others that


want to learn the essence of canning their own food can sign up for special classes taking place from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., May 21 and 30, at the Lee County Extension Office, in Fort Myers. Each class is limited to nine preregis- tered attendees.


In addition to gaining the latest


USDA guidelines for safe food preser- vation, participants will receive a free copy of So Easy to Preserve, a canning book from the University of Georgia, and will be able to buy Simply Florida: A Taste of Flavors from the Sunshine State, a cookbook that highlights many of the foods we grow and provides tips in preparing healthy meals that are safe and nutritious.
