Regarding the 2013 racing season, QROOI President Bob Broadstock is quoted saying;

continues to have on the Ontario Breeding Sector and all aspects it supports. All can help the process by ensuring all governing authorities are reminded of these basic facts. Ensure rural Ontario, and how the recent moves have drasti- cally affected our farmers and their support mecha- nism, are noted to our gov- ernment.

“Although we expect news any day regarding the state of Quarter Horse racing in the province of Ontario, we are concerned the OMAFRA Transition Panel has not taken steps to con- firm at least our 2013 rac- ing season. I am extremely

Now that arrange- ments for the continuation of racing at Woodbine & Mohawk racetracks have been confirmed, Ontario’s Quarter Horse Racing requires similar confirma- tion of how the 2013 Quar- ter Horse Race Season and future seasons, will pro- ceed. As we wait for this confirmation, all race par- ticipants are encouraged to remain in contact with your local MPP to ensure they are constantly reminded of the situation Ontario’s Quarter Horse Racing Industry finds itself. Be sure they know – without doubt – that horses are not “widgets.” They cannot be simply turned on and off. Getting a horse fit and ready for racing requires a dedicated team of people, resources, and time. Also note the effect this had and

Important also is the racing program. Your organization – QROOI –is not able to publish Stakes and Racing Program infor- mation until resolution regarding the status of Ontario Quarter Horse Rac- ing is determined. Normal- ly, this is the time of year the “Stakes Book” would be drafted and produced. Until the Quarter Horse Race Season is verified by the governing authorities, this vital aspect of Racing cannot proceed. Commit- ment from the Ontario Government to support the Quarter Horse Racing Industry’s long-term, self- sustaining model and develop must be achieved. Not to be forgotten in this is the American Quar- ter Horse Association. To allow the AQHA’s “Bank of America Challenge” races Ontario has hosted the past several seasons to

be arranged, verification of the Ontario Quarter Horse Season must be obtained. These are major stakes races that bring investment to Ontario and firmly place Ontario racing in the inter- national spotlight. Due consideration for these races and the AQHA orga- nizers must be provided. At the time of printing, it is anticipated these races will run as part of the 2013 Ontario Quarter Horse Stakes Program, as they ran in 2012. Again, this may – and likely will – be amended as we draw closer to the opening of the 2013 season.

When confirmed, news regarding the 2013 season will be released to QROOI Members via the QROOI’s electronic net- work and posting on www.qrooi.com. Please note only confirmed infor- mation will be posted in this manner. The most efficient means to receive this information is by being a member. Those who are not a member need only contact the office at 905- 426-7050 or by email at qrooiheadoffice@gmail.co m. Our staff will be happy to help in this regard.

TORONTO, ON – The Ontario Lot- tery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) is pleased to announce that it has reached lease agreements in principle for its slots operations with eight of its site holders. This includes:

• Woodbine Racetrack; • Mohawk Racetrack; • Rideau Carleton Raceway; • Hanover Raceway; • Woodstock Raceway; • Dresden Raceway; • Sudbury Downs; and • Clinton Raceway.

Rod Phillips, President and CEO of OLG, “We have longstanding and positive relationships with our site- holders and look forward to working with them in the future.” OLG hopes to finalize agreements with site holders by February 28, 2013. OLG continues to engage in lease agreement discussions with its other site holders across the province and remains hopeful that a positive out- come to those discussions is near for all facilities.

OLG has provided the sitehold- ers with a Letter of Intent, which sets out the general intentions and busi- ness arrangements, subject to approvals, between the site and OLG. On December 21, 2012, OLG announced agreements in principle with Western Fair District Raceway and Kawartha Downs Racetrack. “We are pleased to announce that we have reached lease agreements in principle with 10 gaming sites,” said

OLG is modernizing lottery and gaming in Ontario so that it can con- tinue to support the people and the Province of Ontario. Once this mod- ernization is complete, OLG will have increased its net contribution to the Province by $1.3 billion annual- ly, while creating thousands of jobs and driving more than $3 billion in capital investment across Ontario. OLG is a provincial agency responsi- ble for province-wide lottery games and gaming facilities. Since 1975, OLG lotteries, Casinos, Slots, and Resort Casinos have generated more than $36 billion for the benefit of the Province of Ontario.

Proceeds from OLG’s opera- tions help support Ontario’s hospi- tals, amateur sport through the QUEST FOR GOLD program, recreational and cultural activities, communities, provincial priority programs such as health care and education, and local and provincial charities.
