FEBRUARY 2013 THE RIDER /3

Clinics Continued from Page 1

Ontario’s Mane Event. Taking place March 29-31 at the International Centre in Toronto, the show includes a dedicated exhibition hall complete with demos, retailers and industry experts, featuring top clinicians Josh Lyons and Lynn Palm. Mr. Lyons is a regular con- tributor to various horse-related publications and is a popular clinician whose training techniques are in great demand across Cana- da. Josh will have his own booth where attendees can talk one-on-one with him. Ms. Palm is a pioneer among female clinicians: her work as a clinician since 1970 has greatly increased the visibility of women profession- als in the equine industry. Her ability to maintain a successful career in a traditionally male-dominated industry cannot be celebrat- ed enough as she has been such a positive role model for young female athletes and rid- ers.

lent horsemanship.”

Respected local clinician and now new author, Jonathan Fields, is currently working on his first book based on his experiences in the equine industry, and Can-Am attendees are sure to hear a few anecdotes and excerpts from Jonathan’s soon to be published book. That crazy Aussie horseman, Guy McLean, brings his signature Downunder flavour to the event which marks his first ever visit to Canada. A horse-lover since his childhood, Guy is the “Man from Snowy River” for the 21st century! Stacy Westfall, the first and only female win- ner of the Road to the Horse (2006) credits her success to her ability to think like a horse. Miller says he expects her to draw a huge crowd of horsewomen, thanks to her ground- breaking win back in 2006. With such out- standing professionals, Millar says that “any- one with even a minimal equestrian back- ground will be able to appreciate their excel-

Can-Am will also feature several exclu- sive educational seminars: you can learn about equine dentistry from Kevin Runde or discover new organic health supplements and equine nutrition courtesy of Stella Fokas of The Edge EQ. Innovative artist Susan Harris will present “Anatomy in Motion™/ The Visible Horse” in which she paints equine muscles and skeleton onto a live horse.

With such an overwhelming variety of talent, workshops, new products and interac- tive events, there is something for every horse- lover to enjoy throughout the month of March. Top show horse and 2008 Halter Hall of Famer, Jazz, will also be on hand to meet fans at Ontario’s Mane Event. Jazz is also a therapy horse who frequently visits senior homes to meet patients living in long-term care; his big heart and personality never fail to raise spirits and smiles. And animal chiro- practor, Dr. Aerin Greidanus, will be on hand to share her extensive experience and advice with attendees.

Alan Barnes, President of Zodiac Events, the producers of the All About Pets Show, recently explained that although the event has been traditionally a small domestic pet show “There are many small-holdings and farms in Ontario that keep horses and ponies as companion animals and pets, not just for riding. And where you find horses, you find dogs and cats, so we feel the cross- over holds enormous potential.”
