As we welcome a new year, we look back at some of the highlights of AQHA in 2012.

They debuted the successful AQHA Novice championship shows and announced many new world champions during the four AQHA world shows. In racing, Ochoa set an all-time earnings record at the All American Derby. AQHA connected with members on a whole new level, celebrating half a million fans on Facebook, plus interacting on Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube and the blog, Americas Horse Daily.

Health Flash Equine Guelph is pleased to announce the introduction of Health Flash - a program of four seasonal health reminders to help the busy horse owner keep on top of the changes that affect their sector during the year. The program will also provide special alerts in case of disease outbreaks and comes complete with interactive games to test your seasonal savvy. “Health Flash will be a valuable tool to any horse owner as it provides very con- cise information to help keep on top of seasonal issues. Health Flash has the potential to have a positive economic impact on the industry as a whole as ‘healthy horses’ translate into a ‘healthy industry’,” says Uni- versity of Guelph researcher, Dr. Kim McGurrin.

In addition to funding from Vétoquinol Canada and Merck Canada, investment in this pro- ject has been provided by Agri- culture and Agri-Food Canada through the Canadian Agricul- tural Adaptation Program (CAAP). In Ontario, this pro- gram is delivered by the Agri- cultural Adaptation Council. Other partners include the Canadian Animal Health Insti- tute and the Ontario Veterinary College.

Regional Championships Check out the 2013 AQHA Regional Championship Shows to be held across the United States and Europe, representing 11 regions. As of right now AQHA regions one, two, three, six, seven, eight, nine and ten have set dates. Currently, our Region Four Championship Show is postponed for 2013. The Region Four Steering Com- mittee made the decision not to hold the show this year. The Ohio Expo Center in Columbus did not have any available dates that did not conflict with other

shows throughout the region. Additionally, the steering com- mittee explored the option of moving the show to another facility, but again there were conflicts on all available dates. If Region Four competitors have questions about showing in a different region, they are urged to contact AQHA at (806) 376- 4811. For Regional Champi- onship eligibility rules find your region and see dates and loca- tions of upcoming events, visit www.aqha.com/regionalcham- pionships.
