supplies such as coffee cups, lids, stirrers, sugar and hot sleeves.” The students quickly learned that, despite the support they’d been given, there were still a few challenges to overcome. When we were first promoting 'The Bean', the opening hours were not put across effectively and then we had to find time in our schedules which was difficult due to the demands of the IB programme. Even though we have experienced these problems, we have gained knowledge through the process of starting up the business for our business class. Mr. Martin provided advice when we experienced challenges and gave us guidance when producing financial statements. We have found it to be quite rewarding when our customers give us positive feedback as well as learning from the little negative feedback. We have not yet 'broken even' but we’re getting there. Mr Martin says he’s satisfied with the results and thinks there’s a future for 'The Bean': “It just so happened that there was a great market opportunity and the students have really grown into the task. Hopefully they can expand their product range as we move forward.”

f you’ve never been skiing, you should really give it a try. This year students from Year 7 and Year 8 went to Killington, Vermont and everyone had a blast! I woke up every morning to snow falling and icicles on the window. After breakfast we would put on our ski clothes, met with everyone in the lobby and then headed across the bridge to go skiing. I was a bit scared to go at first since the last time I’d been skiing I was six. I did feel a bit better knowing that some people had never skied before and yet they caught on really quickly. The ski instructors were amazing and listened carefully to what you said. It was an excellent experience for me to learn how to do something that I don’t normally do.

Although it was a ski trip, we were also able to do lots of other things such as going to the mall, bowling, swimming (in a heated pool) and tubing.

After our skiing lesson, which lasted for about six hours (including lunch), we would go back to the hotel and play a game, do a scavenger hunt and then just hang out until it was time for dinner. After dinner we would change into our pj’s and play a game or watch a movie until "lights out" at ten.

I loved going on the ski trip so much that I wish I could sign up to go again next year. Too bad it’s only for Year 7s and 8s. It was awesome to wake up and be in a hotel with just my friends and no parents! I also got to know the people in my year group better and got to know new people in Year 7. It really was an amazing experience and I would highly recommend it to all future Year 7 and Year 8 students.
