The following is an excerpt from the book: Daddy I Need to Go Potty
KIDS HAVE GREAT TIMING by Gabriel A. Fraire My kids have
great timing. They always wait until the opti- mum moment of embarrassment for dad before throwing a tan- trum or having a meltdown.
And what is it about the phone? My kids must be reincarnated prize-fighters. They hear the phone bell and they just come out fight- ing.
I think of all the times some other parent, in try- ing to keep her kids quiet while on the phone, inad- vertently ended up yelling into the receiver (and thus
my ear) and now I’m one of those parents. And forget about try- ing to watch anything on TV. I don’t really care much for sports but, at least, they have replays. If regular TV programming had replays I might get to see more of it.
My oldest daughter’s cur-
rent favorite phrase, as soon as she sees me trying to get comfortable in front of the TV,
“What’s more impor-
tant Dad, watching televi- sion or playing with me?” She’s right, she always more important and knows how to use it.

New Organic Meals
New gourmet vegetarian items, County’s best BLT, many vegan options; organic and local ingredients; inspired by tea cultures of the world, in a relaxed setting.
Over 100 artisan truffl es, soft caramels, and diary-free chocolates; gluten-free pastries; 105 organic teas.
Shakespeare's “Taming Of The Shrew” that high school English teachers continue to use to this day.
All of these films serve dif- ferent purposes but I think the important thing to take away is, if you’re having trouble with your story, stop looking at it like rein- venting the wheel. Start thinking about what you can draw from others. What stories have been told and which need to be told again? Think of it as a a giant puzzle that lays in front of you and its a treasure hunt for each piece, from your themes to your over arching plot. Find the best of what others have done and add your flavor to pay homage to what they accomplished while seeing what you can bring to the table. If you feel like you need approval for something like this, just remember:
“Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal." ~T.S. Eliot.

UPBEAT TIMES • April 2013 • 17 Play It Again Larry Bertolini Day Under The Oaks May 5th!
Santa Rosa, CA. ~ Do you want your children to think college would be fun and within reach? This free-admission event is designed as an open house for the junior college district. SRJC faculty,
staff and students will
show off the science, math, art, humanities, health, agriculture, animal science, engineering, business, and athletic programs at the college. Families have the opportunity to go into labs and classrooms, participate in activi- ties, visit outside displays and exhibits, and meet the educators who enthusiastically share their expertise with students. Planned activities include:
make a battery with a lemon, listen
to small animals’ hearts with a stethoscope, create an art mural, watch the “It’s Not Magic It’s Science” demo, visit a farm animal petting zoo, use a solar telescope, or check out a liv- ing library book to learn about a career. Participants can also feed undersea creatures, watch judo demonstrations, explore an ambulance, watch a scale model volcano erupt, and learn to use an abacus. In addition, they can
watch a public safety demonstra- tion of how a person is extricated from a wrecked car and attend free planetarium shows through- out the day.
The college’s three newest
buildings – B. Robert Burdo Culinary Center, Lawrence A. Bertolini Student Center, and Frank P. Doyle Library – will each offer tours. Student groups and the Culinary Center will offer multi-cultural foods. There will also be booths where high school students can learn about registration, financial aid, and other assistance at the college.
The open house is a revival of a 30-year-old event, which was cancelled in 2009 due to the swine flu scare and was not restarted due to severe budget cuts during the recession. This year’s event is named in honor of the late former SRJC trustee and Day Under The Oaks co-founder, Larry Bertolini, who had annu- ally arranged the farm animal petting zoo.
