EVENTS I AIRCRAFT INTERIORS EXPO PREVIEW
Sabic Innovative Plastics
Corian work tops, Emteq LED lighting and backlit engraved mirror. Two new products designed and manufactured by MacCarthy are a new moulded PanGuard from materials supplied by Schneller and a revolutionary toilet shroud. The PanGuard will enhance the look of the lavatory, but will also ensure maintenance costs are kept down due to its durability. MacCarthy will be installing the new PanGuard into seventy lavatories for a fleet of B767’s for a European customer in early 2013, as part of a fleet upgrade programme. The one piece colour moulded toilet shroud has been designed and developed by MacCarthy Aviation over the last six months and is in the process of being certified ready for delivery to the launch customer by the end of March. The benefits of this all new shroud are a reduction in weight, increased durability and cheaper than current market offerings and will enhance an already strong portfolio of products from MacCarthy. The company has also been using Corian for galley and lavatory worktops for a number of years and it is now a standard product for refurbishment and uplift projects, so at this year’s show MacCarthy has made its own bar complete with a multi- coloured Corian worktop. Corian is extremely versatile and, coupled with its low maintenance costs and wipe clean surface, it is ideal for demanding areas of an aircraft and does not look out of place in VIP aircraft as well. Pittards (stand 7A42), a luxury and
performance leather manufacturer, has announced it will use the exhibition to present a first. Its Cloud9 product offering is available in a wide range of colours and specifically engineered to resist water, oil and other stains while providing flame retardant properties to industry standards. Pittards say that thanks to the reliability of its tanning process, all the Cloud9 performance benefits are permanently bonded within the leather structure so that it retains its look, feel and effectiveness throughout the life of the leather. Nearby, Rogers Corporation (stand
7A1) will introduce its new silfx low density silicone comfort foam for aircraft seat cushions. Using innovative formulation and processing techniques, Rogers developed a non-petroleum based foam technology that enables thin cushion design, longer cushion life and lasting passenger comfort. The silfx silicone comfort foam is claimed to be the lowest density flame-retardant silicone foam in the world and will be promoted during this years’ show. Also on display during the show
at Sabic Innovative Plastics (stand 5B31) will be its Lexan XHR 5000 sheet, which is designed for multi- layer window shade systems requiring advanced fire, smoke and toxicity (FST) properties and opacity. Not only does this solution meet demanding safety requirements, it also helps improve

comfort in the cabin environment with a high quality appearance and enhanced room-darkening properties. Sabic’s ongoing investment in advanced materials technologies for the aerospace sector demonstrates the company’s commitment to helping aircraft OEM customers meet toughening regulations, greatly expand thermoforming design options, improve aesthetics and heighten the consumer flying experience. Testing by an independent laboratory demonstrated that thermoformable Lexan XHR 5000 sheet complies with the Federal Aviation Administration’s flammability requirements under the FAR 25.853 regulation, and smoke density and heat release requirements under the Ohio State University (OSU) 65/65 standard. Supplied as a white- pigmented cap layer over a black base, Lexan XHR 5000 sheet is engineered as a robust yet lightweight substrate to be laminated with decorative films and then thermoformed. Scott Group Custom Carpets (stand
