SPEAKING THE LANGUAGE OF RECRUITMENT

offered a long-term career where I could progress quickly, earn a good salary and enjoy living in London,” she recalls.

However, having applied for a number of positions in the UK and attended interviews with several recruitment agencies, she was told that despite her English being good, it was perhaps not good enough for her to succeed, as she didn’t have any previous sales or recruitment experience. But then a vacancy was advertised by Eurostaff (now Staffgroup) for a native German speaker to be based at its London office.

Angela Hülser, Regional Manager, Eurostaff Group GmbH

Angela Hülser joined Eurostaff (part of Staffgroup) straight from university. During an internship, she’d stayed in London with a friend who was working in recruitment, so already knew the industry provided a fast-paced and dynamic environment with plenty of opportunity for progression. She is now Regional Manager at Eurostaff ’s newly-launched office in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Angela graduated from Augsburg University in 2008 with a degree in Business Management. Although the focus of her studies had been finance and HR, recruitment was her preferred profession. “I knew that Finance and HR was not for me and was looking for a role that

“Eurostaff – as it was then - was a fast-growing company that offered excellent training, and when I joined I knew I would be able to quickly find my feet. The recruitment industry in the UK was more advanced than in Germany, with Eurostaff placing a lot of emphasis on delivering a tailored product and a formal sales process as opposed to simply sending out lots of CVs to potential employers.”

Following a phone interview, Angela was invited to London for a face- to-face meeting with the company’s founders Mark Znowski and Paul Flynn. “I was going to be in London anyway as I was flying to Australia for a holiday. Mark had asked me to get in touch on my return, but I actually found myself in the next stage of the interview process the day after I got back! I met with Mark and Paul, as well as other

senior members of the team and made a number of phone calls to candidates during my interview. Within two days, I was offered the position!”

Investing in People

Just three weeks after returning from Australia, Angela had relocated from Germany to London and joined Eurostaff as a recruitment trainee consultant specialising in permanent recruitment for the Finance sector in Germany. Committed to employing staff with a local knowledge to the markets and cultures it operates in, Staffgroup’s unique approach has seen Germany become its largest market across both the Eurostaff and Earthstaff brands, developing into the Bayern, Hessen and Nordrhein Westfalen regions.

As Eurostaff ’s ‘top biller’ in 2010 and 2011, Angela’s career flourished, seeing her become Team Leader for Eurostaff Finance Germany, performing a 360° consultant role that entailed managing a growing team of consultants, overseeing business development and candidate sourcing. She was also responsible for training new team members, who often have little previous experience in recruitment or sales and join Staffgroup from university.

A Culture of Success

Having risen from being a recruitment consultant to the position of Team Leader within four years, Angela is now the Regional Manager at the new Eurostaff
