“What’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever done while RVing?” BY LARRY MacDONALD, Powell River, BC

No. 6: TOW WOES Before leaving a campground, Don hooked up his tow car to the motorhome, something he had done many times over the

years. Aſter about 100 miles of freeway driving, he pulled into a rest stop and noticed that the leſt front tire of his tow car was in shreds. Te right front tire was also damaged but not as badly. Assessing the situation, Don realized that he had forgotten to unlock the steering wheel by turning the ignition key to the ACC position. Aſter installing his spare, he drove home unaware that he had forgotten to release the parking brake of his tow car. As a result, both rear brakes burned out. Don lamented, “I was not a happy camper,” a phrase oſten associated with oops events. Te cost of two tires, wheel alignment, and rear brakes came to over $500. Since this mishap, Don has prudently added “steering wheel” and “parking brake” to his departure checklist.
