RV PARTS

parts@jubileerv.com Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and hope you all
survived another holiday season! I don’t think I can eat any more leſtovers! It is the time of year in RV parts world that our pre-season
booking orders are going in. Our suppliers are trying to find new and innovated accessories to stock the shelves with. A new product that was introduced this past summer is
“Rodents Odor Free”. Tis is a non-toxic and environmentally friendly rodent deterrent. Te bag comes with six packages and one package will treat up to 400 square feet. You place a package where you suspect rodents may be. Te odour from the package will deter rodents from that area. For more information ask your parts department advisor or go to the manufacturer website at
www.rodentsaway.ca. A complaint I hear quite oſten is an odour coming from
the waste tanks. A lot of times the odour is originating from the grey waste tank. Te grey tank is waste water from your sinks and bathtub/shower. When traveling, the water in the “P” traps under the sink can drain down and vapour from the tank can pass thru. A new plumbing waste vent cap on the roof may help to alleviate this problem. Here are just two products you can try. CAMCO “CYCLONE™” plumbing vent uses air/wind
passing over the cone shape to create a vortex that pulls odours up and away. Even a gentle breeze works with the engineered shape. Ultra-Fab Products have a mini solar plumbing vent fan.
Tis vent installs easily on the roof. No wiring is required and its silent operation will aid in drawing offensive odours out. Adding grey water waste tank additives will help. Tese products will help to dissolve grease and foods that can accumulate in the drains and tank. Tere are several manufacturers so check with your RV parts dept. advisor. Moisture in your RV during winter storage can be a big
problem resulting in a mildew odour and staining of walls/ ceilings and fabrics. Dri-Z-Air® Dehumidifier and Moist-Remover are two product brands to help remove moisture from the interior of your RV. One refillable 13 oz plastic container is good for approximately (10’x10’) 100 square feet. Refill crystals are available in13 oz bag or in 8 lb bulk jug.
As mentioned before, if you see or hear about any part and
accessory you think other RV Times readers might be able to use, please drop me an e-mail and I will try to pass along. For all the snowbirds heading south, have a safe trip, and for those of us staying home, camping season is only a few short month ahead! Have a great New Year!

RV SERVICE

As a member of the PAC for Okanagan College Trades & Apprenticeship Programs, we are constantly in discussion on how to attract new students to the RV Apprenticeship program offered. Kelowna is the only Post-Secondary facility in British Columbia that offers this three year apprenticeship program. Many students graduating from Senior High School do not realize that this program is offered as a rewarding career. Also upon graduating from this program, students are eligible to write the inter-provincially recognized RED SEAL exam. This RED SEAL certification is the provincial standard for many other trades as well. RV repair and service requirements at Dealerships very seldom have a “slow economy” ripple effect that other trades tend to encounter. A good apprentice or a fully qualified RV Journeyman Technician should never be out of work. The nice thing about this industry is there is always room for advancement. The usual rule for advancement is: Apprentice, Journeyman, Red Seal, Shop Foreman, Service Writer, and then to Service Manager. There is also the opportunity to be a Parts Person and then Parts Manager. Most dealerships use their in-house staff to fill positions as they become available. Our current apprentice, Richard Perera, had the distinction
of winning the RVDA’s $ 1,000 bursary which is awarded to apprentices for their outstanding achievement in this program. Richard will be a nice complement to our other Red Seal and Journeymen technicians. If you or anyone else you know are interested in pursuing
this great opportunity, please view all the information at
www.okanagan.bc.ca/rv or send an e-mail to jitterman@
okanagan.bc.ca. Also the RV Tech program is now on Facebook. I hope this gives you some insight to the workings of an
RV Service Facility. If you are ever in doubt or have questions regarding the qualifications of Technicians working on your RV, please never hesitate to speak with your Service Manager.
