The expedition is often the most enjoyable part of the course for the young people involved, as Josh agreed: “From the lodge we scrambled up to a place called Dollywaggon Pike for a quick lunch, from there we walked up to the summit of Helvellyn. We got the most amazing view of the valley we had just walked up and it was the most incredible experience”.
Josh continues: “When applying I thought this would be a great chance for me to see other parts of the country that I’ve never been to and enjoy being outside.”

confidence and key life skills, including leadership, problem solving, teamwork and communication. These skills are put to the test on a three-day expedition at the end of the programme, for Josh this included climbing the third highest mountain in England, Helvellyn.
The Annington Challenge not only encourages young people to enjoy the outdoors, it allows them to do so in some of the most amazing locations in the UK. Josh concludes: “It was the most beautiful location, if you want somewhere to spend your summers choose the Lake District.”
