With the news that Oxford Stadium will close at the end of the year – it is feared that the stadium could be demolished in the New Year. It would mean a final end to any hope of the Oxford Cheetahs returning to the venue. Oxford Stadium last staged speedway in October 2007, after 59 consecutive years of operation. The GRA was bought by venture capitalist firm, RCP (Risk Capital Partners) in March 2005.

Oxford Speedway Supporters’ Club chairman Gavin Beckley said: “At a recent meeting, we had formed a Save Our Stadium committee, along with those from the greyhound side of things.

“At that meeting, Andrew Smith, the local MP, had made clear his support for the continuance of the stadium. “Clearly, the news of the stadium closure is a devastating blow and we need to reconsider our plans.”
