St George meets Old Father Christmas
ST. GEORGE will meet Old Father Christmas and take on the Turkish Knight in a traditional seasonal Mummers play performed by Lodestone Border Morris dancers on Thursday 20th, December.
Look out for a host of peculiar characters including a Doctor and other surprises.
Victorian entertainment over the Christmas period and there are records of a play performed in Tavistock.
“Folk used to say ‘Christmas wasn’t Christmas without the Mummers’,” said Master Mummer Stephen Newland. “Our play is based on an original West Country text.”
