Novice Championship Show Continued from page 18......
Pratt explains. "We had a special Road Warrior trophy, which we presented to the High Point Novice Amateur and High Point NoviceYouth who went to the Novice Championships and Scottsdale or Congress." Outside of the show pen, there
were several opportunities to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow competitors. At the West show, the South Point spon- sored an exhibitor party, which was attended by over 400 people. There was also the daily morning exhibitor meetings, where people gathered for coffee and donuts and had the chance to ask questions or hear announce- ments from the show staff. The meet- ings were well attended, and exhibitors loved having the opportuni- ty to be there. The Ride the Rail/Ride the
Pattern clinic, modeled after similar clinics held at World shows, was very popular. The clinics gave exhibitors the chance to see how the pattern should be ridden and get tips on per- forming it so they could make the most
of their Championship performance. "The Ride the Rail/Ride the Pattern clinics at the Novice Championship shows was biggest in attendance of all the ones we have held," Carter-Pratt recalls. "It really was a good idea; we knew they would be well attended, and we were right. Each clinician set up the patterns that would be used during the show and demonstrated them, and attendees had the opportunity to ask questions." Although the inaugural AQHA
Novice Championships are on the books, task force members are already looking to next year and what the future holds. "We've hit the ground running," Carter-Pratt remarks. "We're already making plans and looking at what we can do next year.We do know the locations will remain the same. The South Point in LasVegas is a great venue to have a horse show. You basi- cally drive in, hang your banners, open your secretary's booth, and you're good to go. Both facilities--in the East and theWest--were wonderful to work
with. They were so accommodating in making these horse shows go well. They really went above and beyond." The South Point offers an unpar-
alleled showing experience, with valets to help unload your trailer, secu- rity for the stabling area, and who could argue with the convenience of being able to go upstairs and take a nap in your hotel room in the middle of the afternoon? The hotel even runs video footage of the show on closed circuit television sets throughout the facility so you can keep up on what's going on in the ring from the bar or your room. Plus, with its convenient location in Las Vegas, there is always
plenty to do outside of the show, so it's a great place to spend a few extra days to relax and unwind after the excite- ment of the big event. With the phenomenal success of
the first AQHA Novice Championship shows, it's clear that there is nowhere to go but up. Novice competitors have a championship show all for them- selves, and all the shows win when there are more entries. The future is definitely bright! For more information about these
