gang growing the Hwy 43 Club to an astonishing 300 members in little over four years. How have they achieved such success? They keep it simple, have fun, keep it as a social event and make sure they listen to what the members want.

There are cruises, Show and Shines and charity events that raise money for great causes. The Big Day for the Hwy 43 Club is the Father’s Day event that attracted more than 500 cars in 2012.

Rod had a long-time dream to launch the very first All-GM Show in Ontario, and in 2011 he made it a reality. In 2012 the All-GM Show at Myers, Kanata, had close to 300 cars. Rod feels confident it will grow dramatically. With this much success you worry about losing that close bond you get when you’re part of a club. Rod and his group work to make sure that this is not the case. E-mails, flyers and constant open lines of communication keep this group tight. Rod is always on hand during all the events to speak to his members. If you would like to join this club please contact Rod at rod@ highway43carclub.com or visit the website: www.highway- 43carclub.com.

The Hwy 43 Club executive and key members consist of Rod Rafter President and Founder, Mike Lecuyer, Lucy McIntyre, Andy Conquer, Kevin Whittaker, Gina Rafter, Sindy Mayer, Kelly Searson, Brent Castle, Len McIntyre, Diane Whittaker, Bob Hanes, Keith Urquhart, Frank Lacombe, Lyall Jollota, Pam Young, Diana Lacombe, Lana Hanes, Sheldon Post, Kathi Post, Karen Conquer, Roger McGetchie, Lawrence DeLong, Rick

Piche, Morgan Crawford and Phil Cholette. They are a big-hearted group that works hard for their club and our community. (Note from Rob: the late great Roger St. Martin, who left his mark on the hearts and minds of the club, is missed and cherished.) Along with this terrific group of people, the Hwy 43 club also has many sponsors and supporters who contribute to the success of the club and the events. Rod gave me a list of about 40 companies. Space constraints being what they are, I have taken the liberty of mentioning just a few: Myers Kanata and Myers Kemptville; Randy’s Performance; Classic Graphics; and D&D Perfor- mance.

For any road to become truly

legendary, it requires big things to happen on it. Just imagine: all the car clubs in Ottawa meeting in Alex- andria and then this amazing group with Classic, Exotic and beyond, all driving down Hwy 43 to Perth to Scotiabank Place for the biggest Car Club BBQ this city has ever seen! Until next time, keep smiling and see you in my rearview mirror!
