legendary
Take the stretch of road that goes from Alexandria to Perth. We know it as High- way 43.
Now add a car club that in four short years explodes from 15 cars to 300 cars. Add to the mix the fact that there are no membership fees, it is not marque specific, and cars and trucks are welcomed. I would say you have the makings of a legendary road.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the Highway 43 Car Club. It’s local, it’s fun and we can all join in.

I had the pleasure of sitting down with Rod Rafter and Frank Lacombe to discuss the amazing growth of the club and the car
community in general. I am always fasci- nated by how each car club got its start. It is usually the brain child of person or a couple of people, and before you know it, you have a vibrant club, its members doing fun things together.
Our story begins in 2005 with a need to raise money for the Kemptville Youth Centre. Rod Rafter decided to take this challenge on. He put the call out to friends he had met over the years at various cruise nights. And voila! it happened. Pretty easy, right? Far from it, my friends.
Rod set himself up at Food Basics in Kemptville with an old folding chair and

card table. His wife, Gina, went to the Dollar Store to get prizes for the car owners. And, with portable radio in hand, the fun began.
Rod and Mandy Selleck ran the Kemptville Cruise Night for three years, when the numbers dramati- cally increased year by year. After the third year in 2008, Rod decided it was time to launch the start of the car club.
