Friday afternoon hangout
By BRIAN WARREN Back in June I received an email from
Judy Landon of Braeside. She had attached a few pics of her husband’s, Bob’s, garage and asked if I was interested in featuring it in an upcoming Bounder. It was the Pepsi cooler that got me.
(More about that in a bit.) Bob has converted his 1,000 sq.
ft. garage into a thing of beauty. The walls are covered with lots of signs and memorabilia. There’s a great-sounding juke box loaded with classic tunes. The garage is well insulated with natural gas heat to ensure that it is used all year. There are tons of tools, a hoist and sandblaster to tackle any restoration project. And of course you can’t miss the main
attraction: a 1959 Ford Fairlane Hideaway Hardtop .
38 BOUNDER MAGAZINE Bob talked about the hours of
restoration that went into the car, especially the grief of getting the hideaway roof to properly work. The “best of show’” trophies on the shelf prove that many people agree. This is a beauty. But back to the Pepsi cooler. It looks brand new. And, surprise
surprise. There’s no Pepsi in it. You guessed it: Beer. Since Bob retired from Shaw
Industries six years ago, a tradition of a social gathering of six to 10 friends gather Friday afternoons to talk – well, cars and stuff.
Thanks, Judy, for sending in the pics. This was definitely worth checking out.
Bob receives a case of Brad Penn Oil courtesy of W.O. Stinson and Son Ltd for letting us feature his Ultimate Garage.
