Eight students from Eden Autism Services recently participated in an Equine Facilitated Learning Program (EFL) at the Naples Equestrian Challenge.
The EFL and therapeutic riding programs at Naples Equestrian Challenge are enhanced by the dynamic presence of horses. Groundwork is the main focus of the program, which emphasizes the relationship between horse and hu- man; depending upon specific learning needs, therapeutic horseback riding can be integrated. EFL can benefit those with autism by improving sensory integration, listening be- haviors, verbal communications and attention span.

Lee County recently pur- chased 43.5 acres adjacent to the 130-acre Conservation 20/20 Pine Lake Preserve, along Kent Road, in Bonita.
The acquired property expands upon the pine flatwoods/ cypress habitat and contains a scenic lake that provides important habitat for wading birds and is ideal for fishing. Combined with the Pine Lake Preserve, the new acquisition offers an opportunity to restore the natural function of the Jefferson Lane Flow Way.
The Conservation 20/20 Program buys environmentally important lands for preservation. Since its first purchase in 1997, the property tax-funded program has made 117 pur- chases, and land inventory now stands at 24,871 acres.
