Hayat Kimya tissue machine sets world speed record
At the Yeniköy mill near Ismit, the TM2 machine was run at 2,210 metres per minute at the beginning of June. The machine, which was

started up in December 2010, is an Advantage DCT 200 TS supplied by Metso, equipped with an OptiFlo headbox with a Metso IQ Dilution Profiler, a Metso IQ Steam Profiler, a Metso Yankee cylinder, an Advantage AirCap hood for co-generation, an Advantage WetDust dust management system, an AdvantageRun sheet transfer system and an Advantage SoftReel L reel. The process is controlled with a Metso DNA system. Stock preparation equipment and engineering were also supplied by Metso. Lütfi Aydin, Paper Group
Director at Hayat Kimya, said: “The cooperation with Metso has been beyond excellent and both parties did their utmost to make the project successful. The results

clearly show that the efforts were worthwhile on both sides. This cooperation will extend to cover new projects in the future.” “We are not surprised that
Hayat Kimya managed to break the world speed record. Our confidence in the capability of the Hayat team has been high since our project started in
2009. We certainly know our machine in detail, its stability, production efficiency and speed capability. However, in order to reach the very top performance a machine needs to be in the hands of a skilled crew willing to push the boundaries. We have certainly seen that at Hayat,” said Jan Erikson, Vice President
of sales at Metso. Hayat Kimya AS is part of the
Hayat Group which primarily operates in the chemicals, hygienic products, paper and wood-based industries. The Hayat tissue facilities have a paper production capacity of 135,000 tonnes and a converting capacity of 100,000 tonnes per year.
VFA manufacturing expansion for BASF
BASF is planning to expand its vinylformamide (VFA) manufacturing plant at Ludwigshafen in Germany. It will also increase polymerization capacity at the plant and build a new polymerization line for VFA in China for further processing of the feedstock. This facility will
September 2012
be built at BASF’s Zhenjiang site in Jiangsu province. VFA is an important feedstock
for water soluble, cationic polymers which are used in the paper industry to increase the efficiency of the paper making process. The VFA- based, polyvinylamine (PVAm) product line enables paper
manufacturers to produce more environmentally-friendly products and to considerably lower costs. With the enlarged capacity,
BASF will be able to better serve paper makers around the world. “The expansion in Ludwigshafen will allow us to keep up with the growing demand for polyvinylamine.
Growth is expected in Europe and the Americas, where paper makers are under an enormous pressure to reduce their cost of operations as well as in Asia, which we consider the growth engine of paper production and demand,” said Dr Uwe Liebelt, President of BASF Paper Chemicals division.
