orkshire-based specialist paper maker Weidmann Whiteley Ltd once shipped its paper to the
However, the print line required an air polluti on abatement system to enable it meet EU regulati ons. Turning to local supplier, Spooner Anguil, an economic and environmentally friendly thermal oxidiser system designed to reduce VOC emissions was engineered and manufactured at Spooner’s headquarters in nearby Ilkley. The two-chamber regenerati ve
thermal oxidiser (RTO) is designed with 97 per cent thermal energy recovery to dramati cally reduce gas consumpti on to only 3 per cent of the total energy required and with more than 99 per cent destructi on effi ciency the system complies with the solvent emission directi ve. An additi onal feature included in the RTO was Supplemental Fuel
Weidmann Whiteley Ltd faced was to select a colour for the system that would blend in to the area of natural beauty surrounding the facility. The site is also overlooked by many Otley residents so the oxidiser had to look unobtrusive and also operate without disturbing the neighbours. Following an off er from Spooner Anguil to paint the oxidiser any colour they required, Weidmann Whiteley Ltd decided the most appropriate colour choice was Briti sh Racing Green. Steve Newell, director at Spooner Industries commented: “All our environmental soluti ons are custom designed and engineered to suit our customer’s needs, covering everything from the concept to the colour scheme.” More informati on from Spooner Industries, Railway Road, Ilkley, West Yorkshire LS29 8JB, UK. Liquid consistency measured more reliably
A transmitt er that measures total consistency of mixed pulps, diff erent quality pulps, and pulps with fi llers has been launched by KPM, a member of the ABB Group. Using microwave true- phase measurement technology, the KC/7 Microwave Consistency Transmitt er, with no moving parts, is said to guarantee high upti me without maintenance. Finland-based KPM says the transmitt er is unaff ected by variati ons in pulp grade (fi bre length, freeness, kappa, brightness, colour and shives),
fi llers, broke and recycled pulps. Further, the transmitt er is resistant to changes in process conditi ons such as fl ow rate, pressure, temperature, and turbulence. “We have the knowledge,
unlike other transmitt ers based on opti cal and shear force technologies. It is applicable close to the paper machine, aft er the mixing chest and machine chest, and it is especially recommended
at paper machines for mixed furnishes and fi llers. In pulp producti on it is applicable
before the fi rst bleaching stage, aft er bleaching before drying machine, at mixed pulps and
products and experience to help customers achieve measurement objecti ves, and this new microwave consistency transmitt er is a further support to our customer,” said Urpo Heikkinen, managing director of KPM. More informati on from Urpo Heikkinen at 358 105 487 606 or
