Voith upgrades world’s biggest board machine

earlier this year following a rebuild by Voith that increased its speed to 1,100 metres per minute. APP says this is the highest speed ever attained by a multi- ply board machine producing top quality art board products, and

provides capacity to exceed the benchmark of 4,000 tonnes a day. Voith says the rebuild was

a challenge because of the limited shutdown time of eight days. During this short period Voith modified the wire, press and dryer sections to fulfill APP’s requirements. In the wire section the newly-developed suction forming boards were installed to reduce stock jumping

at such high speeds. In the press section a new water

doctor and save-all pans were installed before and after the first shoe press nip. This modification is reducing the rewetting of the board at such high speeds. The most complex rebuild activity was carried out in the dryer section in which Voith changed the concept of the existing steam and condensate

World’s largest steel yankee for tissue started up at Hengan

The world’s largest steel yankee for tissue has been successfully started up at Hengan Group Jinjiang in China by Andritz. The PrimeDry Steel Yankee, with a diameter of 4.9m and a shell length of 6.2m, is part of the new Andritz PM15 tissue making

line and enables safe and energy- efficient machine operation. “We already have eight Andritz machines in operation. The PM15 with the world’s largest steel yankee for tissue is now the icing on the cake,” said Zhang Qunfu,

chief engineer of the Hengan Group. Another Andritz machine with a steel yankee will be started up during this year for Hengan, which is one of the leading tissue producers in China.

system of the pre dryer section. In connection to this the Turbo Dryer S air caps were placed in the first two dryer groups. The goal behind installing the four gas heated Air Dryers was to increase the drying capacity of the pre dryer section. To ensure a stable web run at 1,100 m/min the open draw was rebuilt to become a closed web run system at the beginning of the second dryer group. When the BM6 machine

restarted in February it was producing top quality board at 930 m/min. By April it reached the world record mark of 1,103 m/min for a 24-hour period of uninterrupted production.

PrimeLineTM W6 model) has a design speed of 2,100m/min, a width of 5.6m, and is equipped with energy-saving components such as yankee head insulation and a re-evaporation system. The project also included the complete stock preparation and machine control systems. The machine was started up two weeks ahead of schedule in August.

Coater rebuild for Hansol Paper in South Korea

Hansol Paper Co in South Korea is having an off-machine coater at its Changhang mill rebuilt by Metso for completion and commissioning in 2013. The coater is adjacent to a coated

woodfree paper production line. “The main target of the rebuild

is to convert the production line to produce also thermal paper grades.

As a result of the rebuild, the mill will be capable of flexibly changing production between coated woodfree grades and thermal paper grades,” said Metso’s senior sales manager Pekka Turtinen. The rebuild will include a curtain

coating unit, a soft calender, a reel and a moisturizer for curl control. The new curtain coating unit applies

a thin thermal coating layer on the web economically in a non- contacting operation. Hansol Paper Co is a leading

South Korean paper producer that manufactures printing papers, industrial papers and special papers, including thermal papers, pressure sensitive papers, fancy papers and inkjet papers. The

company’s headquarters is located in Seoul. Metso’s pulp, paper and power

business specialises in processes, machinery, equipment, services, paper machine clothing and filter fabrics, including the complete process life cycle including new production lines, rebuilds and services.

Tissue machine order from China endorses Andritz

Hebei Yihuocheng Commodity Co in China has ordered a PrimeLineCOMPACT II tissue machine with a steel yankee from Andritz. With a start-up scheduled

for the end of 2013, the machine has a design speed of 1,650 m/min and a width of 3.66 m while the yankee has a diameter of 3.65 m. The project also includes the

complete stock preparation plant, automation, and drives. The machine and equipment

will be manufactured at Andritz sites in Europe and China. With this turnkey

project, the Andritz pulp & paper business says it is strengthening its position as one of the leading suppliers of tissue machines in China, including local services.
