Great Opportunities at the Duke of York’s – An Academy with Military Traditions
The Duke of York’s Royal Military School is the only non-selective, fully boarding state Academy in the country for children aged 11 to 18.
Set in 150 acres of Kent countryside near Dover, your child will feel safe and secure in a close-knit community where their friends and teachers will understand military life.
Having adopted a military ethos in our approach to education for over 200 years, we recognise that children in all walks of life thrive in schools where traditional values such as self-discipline, self-reliance, spirituality, leadership and respect for others are present.
We specialise in science, sport, outdoor education and music and our pupils enjoy Combined Cadet Force activities from Year 9 to 13. Pupils participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme and have the opportunity to attend CCF camps and exchange trips abroad.
Sponsored by the Secretary of State for Defence, military parades and ceremonies remain at the heart of our school. The whole school Troops the Colour for our Grand Day each year while our acclaimed Military Band gets invited to many outside events.
The school is non-selective, but all pupils are invited to a ‘suitability for boarding’ interview
with our Executive Principal. We consider applications at any time of the year and ‘Taster Weekends’ are offered if your child would like to experience boarding life.
We are currently busy planning how to best spend a government grant of £24.9m to enhance the lives of present and future pupils in the school.
The best way to experience our unique school is to come and visit. Like many other military families whose children already board with us, we are certain you will like what you see.
