FEATURES
Paralympic cyclist Jon-Allan Butterworth was formerly a RAF weapons technician. While serving in Iraq a rocket attack on Basra Air Station resulted in Jon having his left arm amputated to save his life.
During his rehabilitation, Jon-Allan was introduced to British Cycling coaches and, after competing in an inspiring charity cycling challenge to help raise funds for other injured service personnel, he began training with the team on a full-time basis with the goal of competing in the 2012 Paralympics.
The RAF Association has supported Jon-Allan from the start, helping take him on his journey from being a hero in the field to becoming a hero on the London 2012 Paralympic track too.
