COMMUNITY
A
KIDS CAMO DAY
rmed Forces Day this year saw over 20,000 school children across the UK and overseas dressed in
camouflage clothes and painting their faces in support of the Armed Forces.
Camo Day, as it has come to be known, is a nationwide non uniform day raising money for SSAFA Forces Help whose aim is to raise awareness of the challenges faced by those serving in the forces and their families.
Some schools used the event as a fun way to introduce children to physical activities introducing them to assault courses and other activities while others focused the day on the challenges faced by families leading a military lifestyle. Military personnel were also invited into classrooms for talks and demonstrations to explain their role.
At Buryfields Infant School at Odiham, children dressed up and took part in a Drill Practice parade.
Chief Executive of SSAFA, Major General Andrew Cumming, said:
“Recent years have put enormous strains on military families with the tempo of on-going operations and deployments. Some families have been struck by tragedy, for others the sacrifices of military life have lead to loneliness and stress. Camo Day will help raise awareness of the wider forces’ community and the ongoing contribution paid by families in supporting our service personnel.”
