EDITOR/DIRECTOR 

EDITOR’S words W

e warmly welcome Bill Mahon as the new Director of the RAF Families Federation. Bill left the RAF

in Feb and will prove (we are absolutely sure) a very successful advocate for RAF personnel and their families.

As Bill gets his feet comfortably under the table, work continues apace. This month we publish the survey results on Pay, Pension etc and prepare to give your evidence in oral session to the Armed Forces Pay Review Body. The strong views you gave are summarised on page 24 and the full report will

A From the Director

s I write this, I have been in post as the new Director for less than a week but I’m beginning to appreciate

both the importance of the job and the great responsibility that comes with it. It’s an understatement to say that I feel very privileged to be given the role and I’m looking forward to continuing and building upon the fantastic work of my predecessor, Dawn McCafferty, and the rest of the small Federation team.

I’m already struck by the tremendous commitment, dedication and enthusiasm that they each bring to the table to make sure your issues and concerns are addressed, collated and reported. I know – and I hope you do too – that the evidence gathered by your Federation and provided to the most senior levels of the RAF, to the MoD and to ministers, is highly regarded

and influential. But it can only be those things if you continue to share with us your views and concerns.

So I urge you to watch out for and complete our online surveys. The last one for 2012 was launched on 1 Sep 12 and runs for only 30 days. This is your chance to tell us your views about the provision of support to the RAF Family. Also, please do take the opportunity to come and see us when we visit units, where you will also have the chance to complete the survey. We have visits in the pipeline this month to MoD St Athan, RAF Odiham, JSSU Ayios Nikolaos, RAF Akrotiri, HQ BFC Episkopi and RAF Cosford and MoD Stafford.

I would stress two things: That anonymity and confidentiality are of paramount importance in our handling of the evidence and that we need to hear about the good, as

be on the website shortly. This month also sees our final survey of 2012. We are asking whether or not you consider there to be enough support available to RAF families, so please again go online and have your say.

Continue to bring your worries, concerns and observations to us and we will ensure they are represented in robust fashion to those who can make a difference.

well as the not so good or worse. And of course, if you have an issue that you feel we should know about or that we may be able to help resolve, then contact us direct.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in the coming weeks and months.
