Kitty and The Lost Boys release their new album “You Bring Me Dead Flowers”

was recorded over 6 months at Aardvark Studio in Sourton, Devon.

MUCH to the excitement of the band it was ready for release at the end of July. Core of the band,

father and daughter team Kitty Austen and Blind Johnny began recording in November 2011 expecting to complete the album in a week. It quickly became apparent, however, that the songs and the ideas deserved far more time than they had anticipated.

Over the ensuing months more and more musicians were drafted in - some physically in the studio and some virtually over the internet - to help create the album. In total there are 12 musicians who have contributed in varying degrees to the 15 songs.

“You Bring Me Dead Flowers” is an interesting collection of tracks, in that the songwriting behind it spans some 30+ years. The title track, ‘All Over You’ (the first line of this song being the title of the album) was written by Blind Johnny in the eighties whereas other songs were written by both Johnny and Kitty while the album was still a work-in-progress.

The initial idea was to produce something totally acoustic, song orientated and working around the basis of every track sounding like a single. As work began on the songs, however, it became necessary to use different approaches and treatments. The central theme was maintained but guitar synths, strings, and keys were incorporated where necessary.

varied collection of multi-layered songs. Styles range from conga driven Latin rhythms in track ‘Drift’, for example, to Doo Wop, 50s-inspired pop with ‘Don’t See Her’; from flamenco flavoured guitars in ‘All Over You’ to Middle Eastern stringed instruments in ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’. There’s haunting harmonica in the stripped back ‘Cold Wind Blowing’ and reggae rhythms in ‘I Can’t Stop Loving You’.

What can be seen across the whole album, what indeed links the songs together, is the sincerity behind both the songwriting and Kitty’s vocal delivery. There are 3 bonus tracks featuring live
