Contributors Alison Coleman


Alison Coleman is a freelance business journalist with a special interest in entrepreneurs and business start-ups, sustainable business and social responsibility. She has written for publications such as Financial Times, Financial Mail on Sunday, Express Newspapers, EUCommerz and Hays Journal. She is a recent convert to the social media scene and believes it is a journalist’s most valuable tool. She also loathes the doommonger economist think tanks that talk us down and prefers to believe that Britain will prevail in the current challenging economic climate.


Charlie Mullins


Charlie Mullins is founder of Pimlico Plumbers - London’s largest independent plumbing company. Leaving school at 15 with no qualifications and working as a plumber, Charlie had a vision to change the stigma of the existing plumber industry, with the company now boasting a celebrity client base and the most prestige service in the industry. Pimlico has become a family business that is part of the Pimlico Group plc, providing all trades with a workforce of around 200, 160 vehicles and turnover in excess of £16 million. Charlie has also appeared on BBC1’s Posh Plumbers and Channel 4’s The Secret Millionaire.


Ciaran Fenton


Ciaran’s corporate background is in senior management roles at Hachette, ITN, Pearson, and GMG where he was involved in and observed successful talent and intellectual property management models in sport, publishing, film and television always in high change environments. He was also exposed to a wide range of personal and leadership development processes. He then formed the Fenton Model™ and since 2002, he has had a successful track record of applying the Model with individuals and organisations including Sony Ericsson and UBS Investment Bank. He is a mentor at London Business School and a member of Coutts Bank’s Assets & Responsibility Faculty.


Crispin Simon


Crispin Simon has been the Managing Director of UK Trade & Investment responsible for SMEs since February 2012. During a 25 year career in industry Crispin was responsible as Managing-Director or Group Executive for more than 20 SMEs in industries that included medical devices, pharmaceuticals, electronic and automotive components, building materials, software, packaging materials, credit cards, laboratory testing services and paint colour charts.
