Marcus Simpson, 25 Founder and CEO of Direct Sitters

1. Give us an elevator pitch for your company
Direct Sitters is a short-term house sitting company that provides CRB checked house sitters that save people the hassle of booking time off work to wait at home for Repairmen and Home Deliveries.
2. How did your entrepreneurial journey begin?
After being fired from my job, I tried to start-up a company which would have sold the Oyster, Congestion Charge and mobile phone top-ups, via an on street machine. But, TFL said that I would have too much of a monopoly and they didn’t want to give me the license. This sent me into a bit of a
depression as I wasn’t too sure what I was going to do with myself, but I definitely knew that I didn’t want to go back to working for someone else.
3. What has been your biggest achievement so far? We recently celebrated our third year in business by winning a few awards, but apart from this my biggest achievements is the ‘Thanks’ we get from our customers.
4. What is the best advice you’ve been given?
I had a mentor once that advised me not to pursue Direct Sitters, think of something else to do, and get a job in the meantime. Instead of advice, I usually like to hear and learn from experiences and mistakes other people make and draw my own conclusion. But, if there were any rules to follow I would say to be passionate, focus and never give up.
