What’s Stopping You?
By Robert Kelsey
Why Smart People Don’t Always Reach Their Potential and How You Can
I have been
waiting a long time for a self- help business book to come
along that doesn’t feature quick fixes or clichés. The premise is that people with a high fear of failure have tendencies that
determine the perception of
different situations, causing them to avoid dealing with key issues for fear of humiliation. The book teaches you to counteract this behaviour by being motivated by your achievements rather than the fear of failure. The author is interesting too - Robert Kelsey is a successful entrepreneur and had previously been an international banker. He tells the reader that despite these achievements he felt incomplete and in an alarmingly frank tone outlines his struggles and failings with commendable honesty. This approach allows the reader to see their problems from a detached perspective, with some of Kelsey’s observations proving uncanny of common behaviour types. Overall, this was a real eye opener that helps the reader to reevaluate their character traits that prevent them from succeeding. A great byproduct of the book is that you become acutely aware after reading of the many people that surround you who may just suffer from the same fear of failure.
