In December 2010, after a period of feeling uncharacteristically weak and tired, Dallas Armstrong was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder called thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), which causes clotting in the blood vessels and leads to a low platelet count. Dallas was immediately admitted to Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette, Colo. where she endured daily plasma exchanges and several transfusions of red blood cells to combat the potentially deadly disease.

After undergoing 4 rounds of chemotherapy and battling both internal bleeding and infection and many months in the hospital, Dallas recovered and returned home. She received almost 650 units of donated blood over the course of her treatment that came from 89 different Bonfils donors.

In November 2011, 60 of Dallas’ blood donors were able to meet her at Bonfils’ annual Community Lifelines event. Community Lifelines is a unique event that highlights the partnership Bonfils has with its donors and the healthcare community. Thanks to selfless blood donors, the medical team at Good Samaritan Medical Center and our blood center staff, Dallas regained her health and is enjoying time with her husband Billy, their dog Chloe and the rest of her family.
