GRAVY’S TRACK OF THE MONTH

Tis is Laura ‘Hair’by

lot on in the coming month of August. It’s probably because everyone’s on holiday. However, because there’s not much going, there’s no clashes, and it means that there are a couple of gigs that will obvs be packed out when you make up for your blank calendar/post-holiday blues. Let’s not dwell on the lull, here’s the pick of the bunch:

F

Te first gig is as late as the7th! (I told you it was dry), but it’s a good ’un! Willy Masonis playing at Norwich Arts CentreonTuesday 7th.Unfortunately I will be in France but that song Oxygen is still well good.

OnTursday 9th, Gravy presents – Magoo + Local Girls + Te Broken Seas at Oliveson Magdalen Street.

or the first time in my Outline history, I have to admit that there is not a

OnSunday 12th, the only one to call UK songwriter, Roy Harper, dad (unless he had siblings – Wickipedia doesn’t tell us), Nick Harper, plays at Te Bicycle Shop. Brought up and surrounded by Jimmy Page, Dave Gilmour and their contemporaries, Nick brings his 6-strong album catalogue to St Benedict’s St.

Ten onMonday 13th(Friday 13th would’ve been more apt), a fun night will be had by anyone down at Te Waterfront Studio.Te Creepshow are playing and they are a psychobilly / punk band from Canada. Tink Te Cramps meets Horrorpops. Tey also draw lyrical inspiration from B- movies and early horror films, which sounds interesting!

Next up is a triple attack fromTe Waterfront Studio. On the15th,Your Demise play upstairs at Te Waterfront. Ten on the17thit’s Hathaway’s turn.

On the18th there is an event called Magoo

bands playing will be doing nothing but cover songs of their own choice!! Excellent.

Te only notable clash comes from the Outline bunch themselves; (not so) fresh from putting on the first day of the Norwich Body Art Festival onSaturday 18th, the flame is carried over to theNorwich Arts Centrewhere the after-party welcomes Juke and the All-Drunk Orchestraand the DJs from London’s ghetto swing outfit,Future Swing Stories, to carry on the NBAF momentum overnight.

Sunday afternoon gigs are always lovely and this one is no exception. On the19thHowlback Humpresents the Howlback Hum-Dinger at Te Playhouse. Some of the artists playing the shindig are:Rory McVicar + Hoofus + My Visor + Starfields + Terence Dungey + Milly Hirst + Will Barlow & Te Garrets + Chad Mason + Te Loose Leaf Drifters + Adrian Tamboura.

On the23rdAugust, Paul Kelly is playing atNorwich Arts Centre. Ten the next night, on the 24th, Scott Wright + Bill Downs + Empire + Hemingwayall take overOpen.

Polar Bear Clubcome to Norwich on Wednesday 29th, when they play at Te Waterfront Studio.Tey are from upstate New York and they have toured with the likes of Frank Turner, Te Gaslight Anthem and Te Bronx.

Te Broken Seas are one of the best new Norwich bands around and Magoo are also local and also brilliant. In a strange paradox, Local Girls are actually from London, and they come in support of their great new album.

Finally, on the30thHemingwayplay for the second time this month, but this time it’s at Te Bicycle Shop.

‘Mosh Against Cancer’ atTe Waterfront Studio. It sounds like a great cause and a great night with Annotations of an Autopsy, Crooked Minds, We Can’t Dance, High Hopes and Settle for Second. It’s in aid of Cancer Research UK AND all the
