Charity auction nets thousands
Manches hosted an auction of promises, in collaboration with property experts Savills, in aid of local children’s hospice Helen & Douglas House.
The event, which welcomed over 100 of Oxfordshire’s great and good, took place at Rhodes House with Thomas Plant, from the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow volunteering his time to auction the lots.
Lots included everything from the services of a professional cook with waiter (Robert Pinheiro), a lunch and private tour of Coutts on The Strand, corporate hospitality at Williams F1 and golf at Sunningdale, to the use of a holiday cottage in Cumbria. A pair of hospitality tickets for an England football match at
Wembley Stadium and a yacht charter for 10 people in the ABC Sailing Cup Regatta attracted the most competitive bidding.
Richard Smith commented: "It was a fantastic evening. The weather was kind to us and guests were able to enjoy champagne and canapes in the beautiful garden at Rhodes House before going in to dinner. Helen & Douglas House is one of our chosen charities for 2012 and we are really pleased to have been able to add nearly £13,000 to the figure which we have already raised on their behalf through our CSR activities."
Vanessa Fay, corporate partnerships manager at Helen and Douglas House, said: "This very special event was a wonderful
way of celebrating the 30th anniversary of the foundation of Helen House. The money raised is equivalent to 80 days o f nursing care for children and young adults visiting us, which will benefit so many young people and families into the future."
Helen & Douglas House cares for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions and provides support for their families. 2012 marks a very special year as
it celebrates the 30th anniversary of the opening of Helen House as the world’s first children’s hospice. Since then, Helen & Douglas House has provided 30 years of specialist hospice care for children and young adults and now supports over 300 young people and families each year.
