Young entrepreneurs – Olympic champions 'enter the race'
The Haines Watts Young Entrepreneur competition closes soon so, if you’re a young business person from the Thames Valley who is hesitating over whether to enter or not – or know someone who is - remember all those Olympic athletes who entered and won
Being ‘prepared to take part’ when running your own business applies in all areas - marketing, organising, planning ... not just those you’re good at - and not just entering competitions. While you should get help tackling specialist fields, you still need to be part of the process to some extent, especially in the early days.
"Feeling the fear and doing it anyway" is now a well-worn business phrase and is a common trait possessed by the most successful entrepreneurs, who aren’t afraid to try, even when they feel out of their comfort zone.
Since running the HWYE competition, we’ve seen many candidates who have overcome considerable difficulties to prove that they can succeed in business.
If you want to give the competition a shot, it’s free to enter, is open to anyone 35 or under and who runs any type of business in the Thames Valley region – that’s Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.
There will be five local winners and one overall regional winner but everyone who enters the competition can become a member of Nigel Botterill’s Entrepreneur’s Circle for a minimum of two months – and the winners will get free membership for a whole year.

The winners also receive a year’s free mentoring from a hugely experienced partner from one of HW’s regional offices, press coverage and prize money.
Remember, whether or not you are one of our finalists, putting together a business case to
present to others and persuade them that you are a worthy entrant will definitely help you to grow your business skills.
You apply online and we don’t ask you for huge amounts of information, so it’s not a lot of bother.
The deadline for entry is July 31, 2012 and we’re looking forward to hearing from you.
