Thames Valley Property Forum at Ascot Racecourse

Thames Valley Property Forum 2012 (TVPF) will tackle many of the big issues affecting the region at this year’s conference on Thursday, September 13. To be held at a new location this year, Ascot Racecourse, the conference will be an excellent opportunity to hear from the largest property investors in the region and many of the key consultants working across the property landscape and of course to meet a wide selection of delegates who are operating in the Thames Valley, writes Matthew Battle

With a maximum capacity of 150 we already have a confirmed commitment from 80 delegates. This is very encouraging and bodes well for the conference in September. See www.tvpf. co.uk for more information about speakers, content, delegates and last year's conference for comparison of the type of delegates which attend and how to book.

Leading with the conference title Stay Calm and Work in the Thames Valley, the organisers have now confirmed several highly-respected speakers and panelists who operate in the South East and Thames Valley markets.

Professor Tony Travers, director of the London School of Economics and BBC/ITV media commentator on travel and economics, will look at the big issue of travel across London and the Thames Valley from a macro economic perspective. He will be complemented by Ruth Bagley, CEO of Slough Borough Council, who will look at in more detail WRATH or Western Railway Access to Heathrow and will discuss the merits of the fast train connection from the Main Line at Slough into T5 Heathrow. A very exciting development as it will connect Slough into Heathrow in six minutes and also Maidenhead, Reading and main lines stations to Bristol,

potentially by 2018. This session will be complemented by panelists from BAA, SEGRO and Peter Brett Associates (PBA).

As ever, occupiers and tenants feature heavily in our conference as they dictate the type of space required in the region and as a consequence we have contributions from Yell, RIM Blackberry and several others. TVPF has recently established TOG (The Occupiers Group) and we are able to access information directly from the end user which helps complement the conference content and ensures it remains topical.

Our afternoon key-note speaker, Kathy Pain, ALDAR professor of Real Estate Development, Henley Business School - University of Reading will lead the debate about what the Thames Valley must do to maintain its position as a successful region in an increasingly competitive world.

Ironically one of the more surprising facts from the research we have completed generating new content for this years conference was the confidence among the development community to speculatively start new A Grade offices. Savills will lead this debate and we have representatives from Rockspring PIM and Exton

Estates who are both actively funding and developing respectively.

Business Parks, despite the recession and economy, remain a viable option for many occupiers and tenants in the Thames Valley. Vacancy rates among the better located business parks remain relatively high and the conference will explore why this is true but more importantly what the future shape of business parks will be as issues such as CSR, sustainability, travel, health and wealth become more and more important to occupiers when selecting new business park space. We have invited H2 Ride to Work who specialise in bike commuter hubs in London and are keen to see this extend across the Thames Valley business park community.

Our Foundation Sponsor this year is SEGRO which is supported by Event Sponsors Goodman, Savills, Peter Brett Associates, Rickerbys and Barton Willmor. All of these companies are active across the Thames Valley and have

a real interest in making the region a success. Partners also include Estates Gazette, University of Reading, Thames Valley Berkshire LEP and of course The Business Magazine.

In summary the headlines are all positive for this conference and we would encourage you to book soon and avoid disappointment. It will be an important snapshot for the Thames Valley property market in the calendar and a good opportunity to network with delegates.
