Opening Address Sunday, 7/22/12 — Noon “The Secret to Happiness from the Luckiest Man Alive” Denny Coughlin, School Bus Training Company Denny Coughlin has led an interesting life and career, with many ups and downs along the way. He will share these experiences and a list of “Dennyisms” he has developed that help put life into perspective. Attendees can use these sayings to examine their own lives in order to determine what is truly important to them.

“The Most Recognizable Vehicle in North America: Cognitive Research on School Bus Markings” Shmuel Bolen, Senior User Experience Designer at ACI Worldwide North American school buses are an iconic presence on our roads. We entrust our most precious resource, our children, to these vehicles and their capable drivers. We’ve made these vehicles safe through careful engineering, but dangerous drivers still pass them illegally, sometimes with serious consequences. Examining school bus markings in the light of human perception and cognition suggests ways of redesigning the safety markings on the back of our school buses to change driver behavior and reduce illegal passing.

Or, is there room to compromise, and motivation to do so? We’ll explore factors to apply, and determine the real costs and benefits to various responses to demanding parents.
