TSD CONGRATS Congratulations on the recent announcement that STN has

taken over the Transporting Students with Disabilities & Pre- schoolers (TSD) Conference. It’s a great move and service to our industry. Roseann (Schwaderer) and company have done a won- derful job of building this platform of networking and learning. I am sure that under STN’s leadership, it will continue to deliver an ever-increasing value to the school transportation industry. — Harvey Boatman, Certified CPS Technician Vassalboro, Maine

Congratulations on acquiring the Transporting Students with

Disabilities & Preschoolers Conference. I have never attended the conference and wanted to this year, but my schedule would not allow it. Knowing that STN is involved, I will make it a priority for me or my staff to attend next year. — Al Diamico, Director of Transportation Buffalo City School District, Buffalo, N.Y.

Tank you both for the kind words. We have some big shoes to

fill, but we’re working hard to build upon the success of the TSD conference while keeping it as informative and educational as usual.

HEARD AROUND THE WEB Disqus: “Industry Wrestles with Seclusion, Restraint Issue,” May, page 32. While I agree that parents and the IEP team should assess the

need for a restraint system being used for any child, there is a definite need for them during certain instances. For example, we have a severely autistic high school student

who can, and does, lose control at any given time. Tis student hits, kicks and bites anything or anyone within reach at any given time. Would we really want to transport children like these with- out a device to keep themselves, other students and the bus staff as safe as possible? Most of us prefer not to have to consider sce- narios that could cause serious harm to the student himself or to others, but at times there is no other option if transportation is a related service.

Tan Lip Service” on page 26 of the June issue, we inadvertently wrote that Charles Bednar is transportation director at Norco- Corona (Calif.) Unified School District. Te name of the district is actually Corona-Norco Unified School District. We regret the error.
