The Equiery’s 11th

Annual Junior/Young Rider Gallery!

T is year, T e Equiery received entries from over 40 young riders from around Maryland and its surrounding states. Selecting just a few for our print edition is always tough and after round after round of narrowing down the sub- missions, what you see here are just a small selection of what best represents the spirit of this contest, to showcase Maryland’s talented youth. Can’t get enough? Don’t forget to check out equiery.com at the end of the month for more artwork, photography and writing.

Calming Winds Lexi Solley, 12, Pasadena

I can see it clearly, the day I met the best horse trainer in the

world. I had been going to her, Aunt Ginny for riding lessons for nearly a year. Ms. Ginny is a very good at providing lessons, but she was injured from falling off of a horse and can’t get around very well. I am the type of person that learns better from seeing someone as an example and also having someone to provide more hands on with me. I needed a new trainer that was excited to push me and provide more hands on training, but kind hearted and willing to help me. Ms. Ginny introduced me to Malia.

Malia is the best horse trainer; all of her students are excellent Amina Harowna, 9, Rockville

riders. Malia is always saying “you’re a much better rider then you give yourself credit for.” She always tells me “go, Lexi, go” and “great job.” One of my favorite things she says is “push yourself past your fears and you will be surprised at what you can do.” Malia helped me build my confi dence in cantering a horse around the arena. Now that is all I want to do!

One of her best students and my dearest friend is Brooke. She has

been riding since age three and her Appaloosa Colby was only four. She has won seven grand champions and four reserve champions in the last three shows. T at is really good! As you can see Malia is the best horse trainer and I trust her. I

will never leave her or disappoint her. She is like a big sister to me and she is always proud of me. In the show in September I was in eight classes and won seven ribbons! I was so excited and so was Malia. As you can see I have the best horse trainer in the world!
