Law firm supports cutting-edge developer New partners for

Bond Pearce

National business law firm Bond Pearce has announced five partner promotions this year bringing the total number of partners at Bond Pearce to 76.

The new promotions, effective from May 1, 2012, are spread across five departments including real estate, employment, commercial litigation, casualty and property risks and commercial, reflecting the wide range of expertise that Bond Pearce offers its clients.

Three of the new partners are based at the firm’s large Southampton office and work for an impressive range of national clients: Anthony Alderman in real estate, Paula Bartlett in commercial and Ian Newcombe in commercial litigation.

A game developer in Portsmouth is expanding with the help of a business law specialist.

Climax Studios, which is behind virtual titles such as EyePet & Friends, Rocket Knight and Bloodforge, has signed up a third office, comprising 65.5 sq m, at Gunwharf Quays.

The lease details were handled by Graeme Quar & Co, commercial solicitors headquartered in Fareham. In a professional relationship that dates back 18 years, this is the latest legal work the firm has done for Climax, which employs more than 140 development staff.

Climax is a registered developer with Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo and Apple, with development experience in all video game console formats, such as Microsoft’s Xbox 360, Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Nintendo’s Wii. The company, nearly 25 years old, is currently working on announced games with Sony XDev, Sony Studios London and Microsoft

Studios and on an unannounced game with a high-profile publisher.

Simon Gardner, Climax’s chief executive, said: “Demand for our character action games is strong, with popular titles such as EyePet & Friends, Rocket Knight and Bloodforge, and we are needing even more space now due to operational requirements.

“The online game community in the UK is thriving, with more and more participants downloading products and extras rather than buying in-store, and our developments reflect that trend.

“Graeme Quar & Co has been successfully advising us for many years and we’re grateful to the team for guiding us, hassle-free, through another property transaction.“

Added Graeme Quar: “Simon and his team are at the cutting edge of their industry and their success is very much something that Portsmouth and Hampshire should be celebrating.“

The other two new partners are based in the firm’s Bristol office: Joanne Boyle in employment and David Brown in casualty and property risks.

Bond Pearce employs over 600 people in five offices across the country including London, Plymouth and Aberdeen.

Managing partner Victor Tettmar commented: “We are delighted to promote these five new partners, they have all demonstrated great commitment to our vision and have a huge amount of enthusiasm for the future plans for the firm. I have no doubt that they will all continue to make a significant contribution to our continued success. It is absolutely key for us to invest in our people in order to ensure growth for the firm.”

In addition to these internal promotions the firm has made a number of strategic lateral hires over the past six months, and has also promoted six new associates this year spread across a number of the firm’s practice areas.
