Lesson for MP
MP Sheryll Murray took the opportunity to meet with local firemen at the Looe May Fair – and have a look at the educational books they were promoting to help keep children safe.
The fire safety books entitled Staying safe with the Fire Brigade and Nelson and Charlie’s Book About Fire have been written especially for children and teach valuable lessons about dangers in the home, escape routes and the stop-drop-roll response.
People regularly move beach barrier
Signs warning of damage to the steps leading to East Looe’s ‘second beach’ are being ignored, leaving the East Looe Town Trust no option but to close them off with a fixed barrier temporarily.
The steps leading down from East Looe seafront at Pen Rocks are unsafe due to damage from the wind and sea.
Initially they were closed with a temporary barrier and notice, but these are regularly moved.
The shoreline to Plaidy is privately-owned, but is popular
with families for walking and rock-pooling.
Trust manager Wally Scarah said: ‘Re-opening the steps is a priority, and we have to look at the most cost-effective option, bearing in mind we had not budgeted for this.
‘I expect some rock scramblers will still be able to get up and down from the beach, but we have to think of the general public. We can’t give a target completion date until the work has been surveyed and a lasting solution found.’
