QUEEN’S DIAMOND JUBILEE 3 Let the

celebrations begin

IN this jubilee year communities will be celebrating with street parties the Queen’s 60th year on the throne.

Not to be outdone Newton Abbot Town Council also plans to mark this

special occasion by putting the flags out in the town centre as well. Among the more traditional activities,

we have introduced some of our own touches including music and street entertainment all within ‘Jubilee June’. Pop into town on most Saturdays in

June and there will be something going on and I know that businesses will be doing their bit, too, to help Her Majesty celebrate in style. The mayor and the town councillors all wanted to send their personal congratulations to the Queen and so the idea of a Book of Congratulations came into being. We also thought that Newton Abbot

residents and visitors might like to take the opportunity to send their own good wishes via the Newton Abbot Book of Jubilee Congratulations and so it will be available for signing at the town hall in Devon Square and on selected dates* in the town centre itself (see page 10).
