The Queen was celebrating her Silver Jubilee in this year. Her motorcade drove along Queen Street on August 5, which was lined with wellwishers, on her way to visit Haldon Racecourse.
THE Royal Yacht Britannia anchored in Torbay in 1977 allowing Her Majesty and Prince Philip to embark on a motor tour of south Devon.
As the esteemed couple passed through the town ‘Packed crowds surged into the road and almost mobbed the Royal car’, wrote the Mid-Devon Advertiser.
