SPRING F IS IN
by chris carpenter ASHION
he Friends of Dorothy Guild, whose members are also known simply as “The Dorothys,” has over the past several years come
up with a number of clever and innovative ways to raise money for Orange County’s AIDS Services Foundation (ASF). ASF’s important outreach to those impacted by HIV/AIDS includes food, transportation, housing, emergency financial assistance, counseling and support groups. To date, The Dorothys have raised more than $620,000 for ASF’s programs.
One of their most successful events is their annual
Spring on the Runway Fashion Show. This year’s “Rave III” extravaganza will be held the evening of Wednesday, May 23 and will take place at the newly redesigned warehouse of Susie and Kevin Coleman in Costa Mesa. The fashions on display for both men and women will include evening wear, sportswear, golf attire and workout gear, as well as the now- traditional grand finale featuring men’s underwear provided by Freedom Reigns. “This year truly is going to top every fashion
show The Friends of Dorothy Guild has ever done,” promises Chairwoman Barbara Venezia. “Our fashion raves are always a sellout with a waiting list. It is truly a not-to-be-missed event.” The fashions on display are to incorporate attire
from Margaritaville, Apparel for Men, Dark 8 Cus- tom Leather, West Coast Leather of San Francisco, Rod Alan custom-made menswear, Tatum Island Boutique and fantasy gowns by Clay Sadler. Rave III will also boast music, a silent auction, and great food and drink courtesy of such sponsors as Barefoot Wine and Bubbly, Original Tommy’s, The Meat House and Diva Cupcakes. Otto Models will be

providing the stunning runway walkers, with hair and make-up courtesy of MAC and Studio 4 Salon. All major fundraising events rely not only on
ticket-buying attendees, but on generous financial sponsors. Sponsorships range from as low as $500 to the “couture” level of $5,000. The higher commit- ment includes 20 tickets to the event, so sponsors can invite most if not all of their nearest and dearest friends. It also includes tickets to the Dorothys’ annual “Haunted Halloween Party, “ which will be celebrated on Friday, October 20.
Even though Rave III will be held in the latter part
of May, attendees are encouraged to dress warmly for this primarily outdoor event. Tickets for Rave III are just $65 for non-members and $55 for guild members. The Friends of Dorothy Guild has a newly designed website which enables members to download pho- tos, blog, make donations and so much more.
