formation and working ranch horse. For Laurie, though, the realization that she was sitting at the top wasn’t something she wanted to dwell on. “Everyone was telling me we were
ahead, but I didn’twant to know,”Laurie re- called during her JournalWinning Run in- terview with Journal Editor Christine Hamilton. Ranch conformation was a snap for

and not make a huge mistake, and get through our cow – wemanaged that,” Lau- rie said. “I just couldn’t be happier.” Laurie has hadArealChicMagnet for a
fewyears now– she purchased the chestnut gelding, byMagnumChicDreamand out of the Moria Mundanza mare Pepocitas Freckle, from Gary and Lynda Paxton of Mangum,Oklahoma, in 2008. “He’s a really good horse – really good

meet a better group of nicer people,” she vowed. “They’ll give you the shirt off their backs and help you with anything you need. It’s a great atmos- phere (with) lots of fellowship. I just love it. “I think (versatility ranch horse) is great for
the horses – this all-around concept of using one horse in a bunch of events. It helps you get your horsemore broke and be a better rider.” Racing around the arena during their victory
lap,ArealChicMagnet donning hisworld cham- pion neck wreath during a fancy slide, the horse and rider team are certain proof that honing of horsemanship skillswill pay off in the end. “I think every other year I’ve done something
to sabotagemy deal,” Laurie admitted. “I didn’t (disqualify this year) – that helped a lot,” she addedwith a laugh.w
