Dear Readers, H THE

MAGAZINE DEDICATED TO

HUNTERS AND

JUMPERS IN THE WEST

OW ABOUT THAT FLEXIBLE AND RICH FELLERS!!!!!! Fun article in this next issue, stay tuned. The summer is almost upon us, crazy how fast this year is flying by! 2012 is going to be the year with change and turn around for the sport here in the west, at least I believe so. There is a renewed awareness by the riders. They are waking up to smell the coffee as the saying goes. As the economy slid further and further into oblivion, riders and trainers where working at a tremendous pace to simply survive, stay above the water line and keep their business going. Riders where making tough decisions about their horses and their schedules, and families were tightening the belt. But that was last year and now we go forward. This year seems to be reflecting that the economy is seeing signs of recovery for the first time in a long time. Shows numbers are back up, new ones are appearing again, and the general air around the ring is seeing some excitement. Horses are “flying” again which means new ones are coming into the country AND the jumper/hunter rings are a little back on the rise. It is a time for the riders-owners-trainers to take a

deep breath and look to the stars again. Dream, imagine and believe the sport is on the mend. Keep that childlike wonder of our sport in the forefront of our time with these magnificent animals and be thankful for what they bring us. BUT be sure to be a part of the change and that means be a part of the future. Go back to the time when the simple parts of

the sport were THE most important…..the feel of a horses soft muzzle in the crook of your neck, the smell of fresh hay and grains, the sound of horses peacefully munching on the evening feed, and mostly the wonder that they let us be their friends at all. All too easily the pure joy of the having a horse around can be lost forever to the competitive

environment we chose. All too quickly we look at them as the tool to win by. We are FIRST horsemen!!

We are FIRST caregivers. We are first and foremost responsible for their well being AND THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE. Remember…their quality of win comes SECOND, we

must never forget!!! Kathy Hobstetter Founder / Publisher
