experience. I love to watch people in the warm up ring. What they will start with over fences, and what they will go with for their last jump before they go in the ring. It’s really interesting to me. SB: Something’s we don't know about you but would find interesting? KP: Uhhmmm! I have a crop named Petunia, a helmet named Charles (it happens to be a Charles Owen). I wear a certain pair of socks every Saturday. I got them my first time at the USET finals on Saturday because I forgot to bring socks and they were good luck. So I wear them every Saturday! I can wiggle my ears! SB: Family? KP: There are 9 of us! My Father’s name is Rick who I am most like, quiet but dedicated. My mom, Terri is who I look up to. She is always happy, outgoing and helps me reach my goal of being the best I can be in this horse world (which will hopefully be the Olympics, crossing my fin- gers) Then there’s my brothers and sisters. SB: Your trainers or mentors… What influence have they had on you..? KP: Julia Kubicek: Taught me that a horse is a horse and riding can always be fun and competi-
tive at the same time. Amy Ruge: That you can have fun but serious when need-
ed. She taught me the finesse it takes to connect with a horse and get them soft and supple by being soft and supple your- self.
Linda Worely: How to be soft but still effective! Keeping
my chin up, how my position affects a horse’s jump. Heather Northup:(( Linda’s assistant trainer) I love to
watch her ride, how soft she is and how effortless she makes it all look. When I watch her ride a horse I think that horse must be easy. Then I get on it….very difficult! She is an amazing rider and mentor! Jessica Wisdom: The Importance of inside leg to outside
hand. And you don’t turn your horse with your hands but with your legs! SB: What makes you laugh a deep, tear causing laugh that leaves your cheeks sore from smiling so. The laugh that makes it hard to breathe? KP: Other than being tickled? Being with my horsey friend Taylor, every moment with her is a laugh that makes me cry!! At the Evergreen Classic we were walking the International Hunter Derby course and people walked by and called us
