News Pitchcare Open Day
Come and join us on 5th July 2012 to celebrate ten years of Pitchcare and see our extensive operation
HERE’S an open invite to you, our readership, to come and visit the home and hub of Pitchcare and join in an action packed day comprising turf skills practical learning, site tour, catering and celebrations.
The open day is taking place on July the 5th 2012, at Pitchcare’s 2.5 hectare site, just outside Telford, Shropshire. Included in the day will be turfcare skills learning demonstrations, running at intervals throughout the day, at our neighbouring cricket, football and bowling facility.
Pitchcare.com was set up by Dave Saltman and John Richards to provide a platform for improving the standard of turfcare in the UK and throughout the world, and the company is now part of the Maxwell Amenity group of companies.
Dave Saltman comments; “We
are always looking for innovative
ways to further interact with our readership and members. The structure of
the open day will include relevant practical education, fun activities and the
opportunity for visitors to look behind the scenes at the organisation’s diverse areas of operation, including the magazine, website, store and training, amongst other key areas. Importantly, the day has been structured to provide learning and relevant content for groundsmen and
greenkeepers operating at all levels, and BASIS points for professional development are available to anyone attending.”
The Turf Care Skill Learning Sessions (repeated morning and afternoon) will consist of:
- Sprayer calibration
- How to set out for linemarking
- Fertiliser - accurate application guide
- Wetting agents,
Carbohydrates, Amino Acids and Trace Elements explained
- Preparing a cricket wicket for play
- Mid-summer bowls maintenance advice
- Setting up your mower and grinding demonstration
- Identifying grasses and weeds in your turf and understanding their importance.
IN the February/March issue of the Pitchcare magazine, we carried a feature on the environmental work greenkeeper Antony Wainwright (above) had undertaken at Turton Golf Club to achieve the Conservation Greenkeeper of the Year Award.
Unfortunately, the image of ‘Antony’ we depicted was, in fact, someone completely different!
We apologise to Antony for the error. His ‘twenty answers’ appear later in this issue.
