TRAINING with Springing into action

This spring has been our busiest ever, with our regular, Lantra accredited, 1- day Sports Turf Maintenance courses running in many areas of the UK from Northumberland to Hampshire.

Not surprisingly, Spring Cricket Preparations and Winter Sports have been particularly well attended, and these will continue through into May.

These courses are designed particularly with the volunteer or part-time groundsman in mind although, as they give an overview of all the machinery, equipment and processes required to prepare and maintain a quality playing surface, they are also useful for anyone just entering the profession.

Details of all current public courses can be found at www.groundsmantraining.com and bookings can be made online.

We are pleased to have developed an excellent ongoing working relationship with Lantra, and their independent accreditation of our one day Turf Maintenance, Dealing With Difficult People and Situations, and Essential Management Skills for Head Groundsmen and Greenkeepers courses is important to us.

Our courses are continually monitored by Lantra, and each delegate is invited to complete an evaluation questionnaire at

pitchcare.com

the end of their training, and to score our performance in terms of the course content and administration and instructor’s knowledge and delivery. The vast majority of delegates award us an overall score of 9 or the maximum10 points.

Alongside these public courses, we are delighted that many of our regular clients have continued to turn to us for bespoke operator training, the most popular courses being Health and Safety training on turf machinery and equipment, and Safe Use of Pesticides courses. If you are an organisation with a group of four or more staff to be trained, we would welcome the opportunity to work with you to meet your training needs.

As to the future, we will shortly be offering two new one day courses at our Allscott, Telford, HQ:

A Fast Track PA1/PA6 for a maximum of two people - assessment on a separate day a few days after the training - and a Stem Injection course, which will focus particularly on the treatment of Japanese Knotweed (don’t forget that you need your PA6AW qualification if you are going to work within one metre of a water course).

To register your interest in any of these, email chris@pitchcare.com

What the patrons say Exceptional

Here are just a few of the comments from some of our course attendees.

Exceptional course, provides me with all the information I need to successfully provide and produce wickets at club level. David Bradfield, Avebury CC

Professionally Delivered

The course was delivered professionally and proficiently from an obviously well experienced perspective.

In early summer, we will be reviewing and redeveloping our course portfolio, to ensure that we always offer the most up to date information and advice. We will also be strengthening our working partnerships with various sport governing bodies.

Autumn Cricket Renovation courses will be available from July, to meet the needs of those groundstaff working at academic establishments, and will continue through to late September. Winter Sports (Rugby/Football) courses will also start in early Autumn.

So, it look as if our training team are going to be very busy in the weeks to come – which is just how we like it!

Course Instructors:

We maintain a database of Lantra Awards registered instructors whom we can call on to deliver courses to our members.

In addition, we would like to hear from any instructors with turfcare industry experience who would be interested in delivering the Pitchcare General Sports Turf Maintenance

Effective exercise Enjoyable and worthwhile day. Thought the games (exercises) were effective and liked the idea of (the Instructor) speaking to (my) boss prior to course. Stephen Jack, Golf Links

I thought the course was very informative and the instructor was excellent.

Just a quick email to say how much Alan and I enjoyed the course last Thursday. Although we are both very novice groundsmen we found the course very informative and enjoyable. Chris Parry is very knowledgeable and his delivery was perfectly pitched for everyone on the course. We are now both keen to get out there and start putting what we have learned into practice. Although having seen how the pitches at the school were prepared we are both now doing the lottery on a regular basis!! Thanks very much for arranging course. We will be keeping our eye on the web site for other courses. Ian Williscroft, Potton Utd FC

Frank is both very interesting and engaging. Liam Ayears, M&B Sports & Social Club

Thank you for organising the winter pitch maintenance for me at such short notice, I found the training useful, interesting and at a great location. Chris Thorpe, Oaklands College

I was well pleased with the course, gave me lots of information and things to think about. Pete Ellis, Senior Officer Instructor, HMP Onley
