In turn, this allows Genetec to continue to meet the increasing demand for more classes and expand its training services to areas of the world where regional presence and cultural knowledge are an asset. Rivers Casino in Des Plaines, IL, the newest casino in the Chicagoland area, has been awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification by the US Green Building Council. It is the first casino in the world to achieve LEED Gold certification. Walker Parking Consultants designed the casino’s 1,560-space, five-level precast concrete parking structure. with the following contributing sustainable features: Parkmobile USA has partnered with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) and Central Parking System (CPS) to offer mobile payment services to CTA parking customers at various park & ride locations throughout the city. The CTA bears no cost to implement these services because Parkmobile is a subcontractor of CPS, which was publicly awarded the bid to manage various CTA Park & Ride lots. With the Parkmobile solution, patrons running to an appointment or catching a train can bypass the parking pay station and complete their parking transactions by mobile phone. Also, Parkmobile has partnered with LAZ Parking, one of the largest parking operators in the U.S., to offer mobile payment services to its customers nationwide in the coming months. This partnership represents a mutual growth strategy.


Carl Walker Inc., a nationally recognized consultant in the parking industry, has announced completion of a number of projects in Ohio and Kentucky: the Dayton International Airport cast-in-place, post-tensioned 1,400- car parking structure, which the firm designed; in downtown Louisville, both the 452-space parking structure that serves the multi-use Glassworks building and ZirMed Towers and the 330-space Clay Commons Parking Structure that supports the mixed-use development, including offices, retail, condos and a 105-room boutique hotel. Also, Carl Walker recently completed development of drawings and documents for the design-build delivery of a 475-space multi-level parking structure, also designed to be expanded vertically to accommodate 950 spaces, at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. Five years ago, IntegraPark was an early adopter of

As Mapei Corp. continues to grow its Concrete Restoration Systems (CRS) line in the Americas, the Italy- based company is bringing its innovative technology from Europe to the Western Hemisphere. MacKay Meters is partnering with Uniform Industrial


Corp. (UIC) to provide the first single-space wireless parking meter capable of contactless and near-field communication (NFC) payments. The Guardian Solo accepts a variety of payment forms, including credit cards, tokens and MacKay smartcards, as well as coins. “With the availability of contactless credit cards and NFC technology in cellphones, along with MacKay’s commitment to its customers, it was natural for us to offer this technology as part of our

users can simply “tap” their phones together and transfer contact information: “Some 77 million smartphone users have downloaded the Bump app, which allows them to bump their phones together and instantly exchange contact information.” I can see it now, Year 2050, business folks meeting and go through a “tap-your-smartphone” ceremony. Wow. There is one other benefit to business cards. You can write your personal phone number on the back in the presence of the person receiving the card. That act elevates them — and you. You trust them enough to give them your personal number. What do you do if you don’t have the card? I know, call them and your number will show up on their phone. But frankly I don’t see that use of technology as being the same as taking out your Montblanc and penning a few numbers. It’s not the same as saying, “Here, let me give you my direct line.” And then doing it. I know I’m a Luddite when it comes to some of these things, but we just reordered our business cards and will be passing them out at trade shows this year. The poor recipients will be required to scan them into their smartphones. Each badge at Parking Today-sponsored PIE 2012 had a QR


(Quick Response) code on it, and folks could scan the code and all contact information would become available to them. So, I’m supposed to click my cellphone at


some woman’s chest to get her information? Maybe that’s a tad too personal. I’ll take a business card anytime. No minefield to negotiate with that little piece of paper.
