APRIL/MAY 2012 | 5 Back on track

IT’S BEEN A TOUGH couple of months for the cruise sector but the decisive actions of the Passenger Shipping Association and the Cruise Line Industry Association in the US have helped it back on track. They acted swiftly to push for an immediate change to safety legislation and I hope their actions will go a long way to

ensure that the events off the island of Giglio won’t have a long-term impact on cruising. We have a packed magazine for you this issue, focusing

on the Mediterranean, where I get on board Norwegian Epic with SpongeBob for a week of family fun (page 32) while Gary Buchanan enjoys a decidedly more adult foodie-themed cruise on Grand Princess (page 40). The Black Sea is 2012’s destination of choice – we find out why everyone is cruising here on page 49. Plus we’re offering the chance for you to write for us. Check out our Carnival competition on page 86 for the opportunity to win a fabulous 15-day cruise on board their newest ship, Carnival Breeze, and be our cruise reporter. And, finally, congratulations to contributing editor Sue Bryant who won Best River Feature in the inaugural Cruise Journalism Awards. You can read her piece ‘The kids are all right’ on cruise-international.com. Well done Sue!
