Eco-Nutrition: Food for the future
Lynne Garton, Registered Dietitian
Introduction The world’s population has now reached over seven billion and is expected to continue to grow at an alarming rate. With this growing population, along with a shift towards a more ‘Westernised’ diet, it is expected there will be an increased demand for food. However, many experts agree that this is neither beneficial for health nor sustainable for the planet. Consideration therefore needs to be given to eating patterns that are both environmentally friendly and support positive health. To explore this subject further, a special satellite symposium, hosted by the Alpro Foundation, was organised at the 11th European Nutrition Conference (FENS 2011).
